OF THE DAY 4

“He knew that when he kissed this girl, and forever wed his unutterable visions to her perishable breath, his mind would never romp again like the mind of God. So he waited, listening for a moment longer to the tuning-fork that had been struck upon a star. Then he kissed her. At his lips’ touch she blossomed for him like a flower and the incarnation was complete.” -Excerpt from the The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

The best bit of Gatsby, it is!

Completely out of keeping with the rest of the novel. Or so, I felt.

Like the author had a vision of grandeur (no delusion here) that took his words and dipped them well and good in a vat of verse, richly rhythmed, coated in cadence.

Blackberry

Justin Theroux

A little bit of that “intimacy from a lone guitar” I like to speak of, found in a song that fit my summer of ’08 most perfectly.
